Lesson 3: Ethics and Responsibilities
Lesson overview
Lesson 3 looks at hunter behaviour and how it impacts others. Having your own personal standards of behaviour, or ethics, that exceed the requirements of basic hunting laws is stressed.
By the end of the lesson you should be able to:
Define the terms “ethics” and "personal code of ethics" and state the principle on which they are based.
State the five behaviour stages of hunters and explain how hunters change in each one.
State at least five areas where hunters need to develop their own personal code of ethics.
List at least five examples of your own personal code of ethics with respect to hunting.
State three things hunters can do to demonstrate a positive public image especially to non-hunters.
State ways in which you as a hunter can show responsibility to the resource, landowners, the public, law enforcement officers, other hunters, and yourself.
State the difference between a privilege and a right and explain which category hunting belongs to.
List at least five natural values of the hunt.
