Non-residents The New Brunswick Firearms Safety/Hunter Education Home Study course is provided as a service to adult New Brunswickers 18 years of age or older who are unable to participate in the classroom program. There are no participation restrictions for non-residents other than they meet this age requirement and are willing to be tested at a Department of Natural Resources office in New Brunswick. Non-residents should also note the following: Course participation, registration, and testing procedures for non-residents are the same as those for New Brunswick residents. Non-residents must write the Canadian Firearms Safety (Part A) and Hunter Education (Part B) Exams in New Brunswick to obtain a New Brunswick Conservation Education Card. Most hunter education courses taken in other jurisdictions within Canada or the US are recognized in New Brunswick and meet our provincial hunter education training requirements for obtaining a hunting licence. Proof of training must be provided at time of license purchase. Hunter education courses taken outside of Canada do not normally meet federal standards to obtain a Canadian firearms licence. This licence is required to possess and/or acquire firearms in Canada and is available only to persons who have successfully completed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Part A).
