Introduction
An Overview of Online/Home Study Hunter Education Program

The online / home study program for the "Nova Scotia Hunter Education Course" is provided as an optional means of obtaining hunter education training. These alternative options are only available to mature Nova Scotians, who are unable to participate in a full classroom program.

Applicants for the online /home study options of this course, must be at least 18 years of age or older. FIRST TIME HUNTERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST ATTEND THE CLASSROOM PROGRAM.

Notice to All First Time Hunters !

All first time hunters living in Nova Scotia are required to take both the "Canadian Firearms Safety Course" which is offered through the Nova Scotia Community Colleges AND the "Nova Scotia Hunter Education Course" which is offered through the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters.

If you are under the age of 18, you also require a "Minors Firearms License" in order to hunt with a firearm. For more information on a "Minors Firearms License" call toll free 1-800-731-4000 ext.# 6505 or call 902-424-6689.

Upon registration students will be able to obtain lesson and assignment materials that can be reviewed online or downloaded for offline study.

Upon completion of the course material, you will be eligible to make an appointment with an Instructor, to write the course examination. The completed assignments found at the end of each lesson, together with required documentation from the "Canadian Firearms Safety Course" MUST be provided to the examiner at the time of testing.

Examination schedules are based on student demand and instructor availability. There is a $25.00 examination fee, for persons who complete the course study through the online option, which is payable at the time of testing. Examinations are normally offered in the fall and winter months and less frequently during the spring and summer. The pass mark on this examination is 80%.

Upon successful completion of BOTH the "Canadian Firearms Safety Course" and the "Nova Scotia Hunter Education Course", you will be issued a temporary Firearm Hunting Certificate (FHC), which you require in order to purchase a hunting license and to carry a firearm in a game habitat.
