Lesson 4: Hunting Laws and Regulations


Lesson overview
The purpose of Lesson 4 is to explain the history and reasons for hunting laws and regulations. A hunter's responsibilities with respect to hunting regulations are examined.

As a supplement to curriculum contained in the Atlantic Provinces Hunter Education Student Manual, participants are required to review general hunting regulations contained in their provincial Hunting Regulation Summary.

By the end of the lesson you should be able to:
  • State the three levels of government that create hunting laws.
  • State the three main purposes of hunting laws and provide at least two examples of each.
  • Use the provincial hunting regulation summary booklet to answer questions about hunting laws such as bag limits, season dates, hunter orange requirements, posting of land, and legal hunting times.
  • State a hunter's responsibilities with respect to reporting fish and game violations, accidental hunting violations, ignorance of hunting laws, registration of game, trespass, and interpretation of game laws.
