Lesson 5 looks at personal safety protection and how to safely handle firearms when around others, at the shooting range, outdoors, and when hunting in a group.

By the end of this lesson you should be able to:
  • State the basic safety protection equipment you should wear when discharging firearms.
  • Describe three steps you can take to safely transport a firearm in a motor vehicle.
  • Describe the basic safety rules for using firearms while at a shooting range.
  • State three shooting range commands and explain what action must be taken when each is called.
  • Describe the procedure for safely crossing an obstacle such as a fence with a firearm while alone and while with others.
  • Define what a safe zone of fire is and its significance while hunting with others.
  • Describe the six positions for safely carrying a non-restricted firearm while following the ACTS and PROVE procedures.
